About

Lorena van Bunningen is a photographic poet. Her research starts looking at reality, at the tangible world. She creates photographic still lifes which consist of a wide variety of everyday objects; from the silhouette of a tree to a rubber band. In her studio she investigates the relationships between the items she collects. She tries to create a “movement" in which she is always looking for a composition where the tension can be felt between the elements and their balance. Her guiding principle is always the search for a stillness of reality. A tribute to the everyday.

Lorena van Bunningen graduated from the Royal academy of Arts where she studied photography. Her work has been exhibited in various group exhibitions in the Netherlands as well as in her second home country (Ecuador). She has participated in multiple art auctions and fairs, such as Dead Darlings and This Art Fair. She created an artist publication with Unformed Informed (publishing), you can buy it here. In 2020 she received the Piket art prize and upcoming year she will further develop the potential of her work as sculpture during a two month residency at PADA studios in Lisbon.
